OK, OK, Jon...the shocks are quite noticeable on a modern electronic ignition. I was referring to the old "magneto" systems where the intensity of the spark depended on the SPEED of the magnetic slug in the flywheel passing the inductive coil. When you turned the flywheel slowly by hand, you felt a small jolt, but when you spun it fast with the kick starter, yes, you received the full 20,000 volt pulse!
Ah yes...Magnetos, Kick Starters...I'm glad I remember them! I once owned a Triumph Mountain Cub, a 200 cc Thumper. It had a generator for lights, and a good ole MAGNETO for ignition! No battery was needed!
